Abstract
John Shaw provides introduction and context and a subsequent fictional dialog between President James A. Garfield and his wife Lucretia Rudolph Garfield. As Shaw writes, “The thesis of this dialog […] is simple: love was no different in the Western Reserve a hundred years ago than it is now, but marriage was quite different!” Dialog originally performed in 1986 at Lake Erie College by Damaris Peters-Pike and Hale Chatfield of Hiram College. Conference paper; originally published in Western Reserve Studies Symposium (2nd:1987 : Cleveland, Ohio)
