Abstract
Includes two essays. Nineteenth Century Manifestations of Community in the Western Reserve by Robert Wheeler explores three specific “nineteenth century opportunities for community in the Wester Reserve before 1830 which highlight the potential and direction of the entire reserve”. Escape from the Landscape: Shaker Heights, Walden and Pirate’s Cove by David Anderson discusses the romantic notions of landscape and the rural environment that influenced the meandering style of villages like Shaker Heights during the industrialized early 1900s. Conference papers; originally published in Western Reserve Studies Symposium (7th:1992 : Cleveland, Ohio)
