Abstract

David Holcombe discusses Alexander Winton’s contributions to transportation as Cleveland’s first automobile manufacturer, and details Winton’s 1899 road trip from Cleveland to New York “‘to demonstrate to the people of this country that the Winton Motor Carriage Company, of Cleveland, was engaged in the manufacture of an automobile which would serve as means of practical locomotion even to distant points’”.
