Abstract

This symposium had the following objectives: [1] To facilitate a dialogue among the various parties concerned with the delivery, administration, planning of and education or research in the delivery of health care services within the Northeast Ohio region. [2] To identify the issues of concern in the containment of costs of health care services. [3] To identify the issues of accessibility of quality services to larger segments of the community. [4] To formulate general and specific strategies for research necessary to provide quality care to wider segments of the community while containing total expenditures on health services. This symposium involved the hospitals: large, medium, small, public, private, teaching, non-teaching, etc., the "third parties", the employers, the unions, the public sector, the congressional delegation, the educational institutions, the planning bodies, and the professional associations. Participants represented all the professions involved in the administration, planning, regulation and delivery of health care services.
