Abstract

The major purpose of the study was to develop and apply project management techniques for efficient planning, scheduling and controlling of the various software development activities associated with the HPS 1440. To accomplish this goal, the following objectives were required to be satisfied: (1) What subsystems (tasks) required software engineering development, (2) For each task, what activities were performed, (3) What were the precedence relationships among the activities, (4) What is the estimated activity durations, and (5) What is the estimated completion time of the project? To accomplish the above objectives and management requirements, the study team envisioned utilizing the network planning method as the basic approach to be used in the study. Also, the study team decided to develop a computerized listing of all tasks and associated activities. Accordingly, additional computer-based objectives that were developed in the initial stages of the study were the following: (1) To review and evaluate alternative computer hardware/software configurations for use in managing the HPS 1440 Software Engineering Project. and (2) To implement that computer-based system selected in (1) above in Technicare's facilities with Technicare personnel.
