Abstract
Between 1972 and 1975 mortality rate in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Forest City Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, showed a noticeable decline. While this decline could have been due to factors beyond the control of Forest City Hospital, it was decided to determine, on the basis of data obtained from patients who were admitted into the ICU during this period, whether admission policy in the ICU had changed or had not changed in the years 1972 through 1975.The purpose of this paper is to test the hypothesis that admission policy in the ICU had not changed against the alternative that it had changed between 1972 and 1975.
