Abstract
This report details a collaborative effort to enhance the efficiency of order picking and wrapping operations at the George R. Klein News Company. The study, conducted by a task force comprising members from the Klein organization and the Department of Operations Research at Case Western Reserve University, focused on optimizing manpower deployment, line speed, title assignment, and workstation configurations. Data collection involved analyzing company reports, time studies, and consultations with management and staff. Key recommendations include mechanical and computer-aided enhancements to streamline decision-making processes, such as belt space indicators and automated title assignments. Preliminary results suggest significant productivity improvements following the implementation of these recommendations.
