Abstract
This paper explores the evolving landscape of dentistry, emphasizing the need for management skills and the application of Operations Research (OR) to enhance operational efficiency. With the advent of Expanded Duty Dental Auxiliaries (EDDAs), the complexity of dental practice management has increased, necessitating refined scheduling methods and effective workforce allocation. The collaboration between the School of Dentistry and the Department of Operations Research at Case Western Reserve University highlights the importance of OR in addressing scheduling and cost analysis challenges. The paper also discusses the introduction of forecasting techniques and management games to improve dental education, allowing future practitioners to engage in simulated decision-making scenarios. Overall, this work underscores the critical intersection of dental practice and management science in fostering effective and efficient dental care delivery.
