Abstract
Countertrade comprises about one third of world trade and is gaining in popularity. Because of its many advantages for traders irrespective of their home country's level of economic development as summarized in [Reisman, Fuh and Li 1987] it will involve half of the world trade by year 2000 [Cooper 1984]. With an understanding of countertrade formats, advantages and disadvantages, we can more knowledgably pursue this type of trade with efficiency and effectiveness. This paper presented several taxonomical structures for countertrade aimed at providing a complete picture and hence a better understanding of countertrade potentialities.
