Abstract
This paper reviews some concepts from History and Philosophy of Science and applies them to examining the stages of development reached by some theoretical OR/MS subdisciplines and by several applications areas.An attempt is made to create an epistemologic context for recent discussions regarding the state-of-the-art and implications for the future of OR/MS.
