Abstract

A perusal of the management information systems (MIS) literature or attendance at a major conference calls attention to the diversity of the discipline and the need to have some larger frame of reference in which to understand MIS research. This paper utilizes two MIS research frameworks to demonstrate the role of integrative thought in understanding and guiding MIS research. A literature review is used to support the claim that the benefits of improved recall, more effective hypothesis generation, wiser allocation of research resources and better interdisciplinary communication can result from the use of these frameworks.
